Public Meeting Regarding Dunlavy Reconstruction

  • West Gray Metropolitan Multi-Service Center

The City Public Works and Engineering Department and the Planning Department will provide a joint-presentation on new bicycle facilities on Dunlavy between Allen Parkway and Richmond; and the scheduled Dunlavy reconstruction between Allen Parkway and West Gray and between Richmond Alabama. Reconstruction will include new roadway, storm drainage, sewer infrastructure and new bicycle facilities. Staff will be present to answer community questions.

Town Hall Meeting Regarding Proposed Montrose TIRZ with Council Member Cohen

  • West Gray Metropolitan Multi-Services Center

Council Member Cohen has met with a multitude of neighborhood civic groups, local businesses, and faith organizations that represent the Montrose community to discuss the potential for a Tax Increment Reinvestment Zone (TIRZ) for Montrose. Based on the community's input, a proposal has been crafted that will facilitate road repairs and other infrastructure improvements for this neighborhood without raising taxes.

To ensure the affected community has an opportunity to learn more about this proposal and how it will impact their neighborhoods, Council Member Cohen is hosting a public meeting next week:

PUBLIC MEETING: MONTROSE TIRZ PROPOSAL

The festivities:
The Winlow Place Civic Club will treat you to a buffet from El Pueblito and birthday cake. You'll just put a pin on your home on the map and get a wristband that entitles you to free food and a beverage of your choice! Prizes will be given for the longest owner, newest neighbor, newest renter, longest renter... and more! We'll meet and greet, learn about the neighborhood, hear stories about how it was back in the day, make new friends, see old friends, enjoy the face painting, hang out and just have fun! 

So come on over to our neighbor, the Alabama Ice House at 1919 West Alabama (since 1928). We will have a special section for our private party. Families welcome. No Texans game, no excuses. Rain or shine we will be getting together. Join us!

So, what are we celebrating? TWO celebrations in one!
The Winlow Place Addition was laid out in 1925, making it the second oldest platted neighborhood in Houston. The Winlow Place Civic Club was formed in 1965. Now, we are celebrating the 50th birthday of the Civic Club and the 90th birthday of our Neighborhood with a celebration for ALL of the residents and non-resident owners of Winlow Place – that means YOU. We would love to have you join the party.

If you did not get a chance to early vote, be sure to cast your vote on the official City of Houston Election Day! Polls will be open from 7:00 a.m. – 7:00 p.m.

You can see this information, as well as a sample ballot, on the County Clerk website. Always be sure to double check your polling location as you are required to vote at that location on Election Day!

Mandell Park Music At Twilight

Enjoy fall and this cooler weather at Mandell Park's "Music At Twilight" event! This is a free, hour-long show featuring music by Adam Bricks. Please feel free to bring a blanket, a picnic – and most especially, feel free to invite friends! Mandell Park is one of our neighborhood's nearest beautiful public spaces, so please join in tomorrow evening at 7:00pm. As a reminder, Mandell Park is located at the intersection of Richmond and Mandell. In the event of rain, the show just moves next door to El Pueblito!

Neartown Mayoral Candidates Forum

  • Pecore Hall, St. Stephen’s Episcopal Church

Please join us for the Neartown Association's Mayoral Candidates Forum on Wednesday, October 21st at Pecore Hall of St. Stephen's Episcopal Church. Six candidates have accepted the invitation.

Each candidate will be asked to briefly present their vision for the City of Houston and 3-5 goals they intend to accomplish by the time they leave office. In addition, the candidates will be asked to respond to five questions covering topics that are crucial to Montrose, as well as the City as a whole:

  • Infrastructure
  • Affordable housing
  • Mobility
  • Balancing growth with neighborhood needs
  • Public safety

After the question and answer session, there will be a brief "meet and greet" period, giving forum attendees the opportunity to visit with the candidates. Early voting begins on October 19th. We encourage you to take advantage of this last chance to be informed ... and vote!

Pecore Hall is located at the northwest corner of Sul Ross and Woodhead Streets.

Early voting starts October 19 and runs through October 30! A great way to ensure you cast your ballot is to vote early. Registered voters can vote in person during the early voting period, and can vote at any polling location within their county.

Public Open House – Major Thoroughfare & Freeway Plan Amendments (including Dunlavy)

Please share your voice on behalf of Winlow Place at the open house regarding the Major Thoroughfare and Freeway Plan proposed amendments. This public forum will take place June 25th at the United Way of Greater Houston (50 Waugh Drive). The Planning Department staff will consider all community input they receive at this forum when crafting their recommendation on each amendment. You may recall last year that Dunlavy was a major topic of interest to our neighborhood. Related to this, there will also be a public hearing before the Planning Commission regarding the Major Thoroughfare and Freeway Plan proposed amendments on July 16th at 2:30pm in the City Hall Annex. We encourage you to attend this as well, if you are able.
